He died earlier this month at the age of 90.

As an explorer and researcher, Kuczyński led numerous expeditions to the caves of Mexico, Cuba, France and other countries.

He also took part in polar expeditions by the Polish Academy of Sciences and was an accomplished climber, with many successful ascents in the Himalayas and the Andes.

Kuczyński was a member of the Explorers’ Club in New York and a co-founder of the club’s Polish branch.

His literary output includes 35 books.

He was included in the List of Honour of UNESCO’s International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

At the age of 15, Kuczyński fought in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising by Poles against their Nazi German occupiers. His father was killed during the insurgency.
