The US broadcaster has named the historic southern Polish city among the world’s 17 best destinations for Christmas shopping, alongside tourist meccas such as New York and Florence, Italy.
The broadcaster has said on its website that Kraków's Christmas market, in the city's huge main square, “typically gets a heavy dusting of snow during December, making a visit here even more magical than some of the big-name markets in western Europe.”
According to the cnn.com website, hand-painted Christmas baubles are a local specialty in the Polish city, as are spiced nuts and boiled candies.
It added that what makes Kraków special is that it offers “a more all-round Christmas shopping experience, so it's worth trawling the stalls for cheap antiques and weird and wonderful bric-a-brac.”
Kraków's Christmas market this season runs from November 29 to December 26, Poland's onet.pl news website has reported.
