Risqué relic: what archaeologists dug up in Gdańsk

The lot of an archaeologist may seem to be a boring one - painstakingly sifting through layers accumulated over the ages, only sometimes to be rewarded with a find that is different from the usual piece of pottery or ancient coin.

But that’s not always the case. One uncovered object suggests that in the 18th century the citizens of the Baltic city of Gdańsk were a worldly crowd and liked to indulge themselves, including in the pleasures of the flesh...
