The figure was a notch higher than an earlier estimate by the country’s labour minister.

There were around 965,800 people without jobs at the end of April, up from 909,400 a month earlier, according to the state-run statistics agency.

Poland’s Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said this month that more than 3 million jobs have been saved throughout the country thanks to government efforts to shield the economy from the coronavirus.
