The Government Security Centre (RCB) appealed for anyone who notices a person sleeping rough at a bus stop to call the police.

Bożena Wysocka from the RCB said: "Such a phone call may save someone's life".

She added people should also alert the authorities if they know of someone staying on unheated premises.

In many areas of the country, sub-zero temperatures will hit the double digits after sunset in the days ahead, forecasters have said.

Heavy snowfall across Poland earlier this week caused problems for drivers, disrupted public transport and led to a string of accidents.
