Polish Deputy PM infected with COVID-19

Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin is the latest in a string of high-profile politicians in Poland to confirm he has contracted the coronavirus.

"It got me too in the end," Gowin wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

He added: "Let those who can get vaccinated! We'll overcome this filthy thing soon!"

Jan Strzeżek, a spokesman for the deputy prime minister's Porozumienie (Agreement) party, which is part of Poland's ruling conservative coalition, said Gowin had flu-like symptoms and would be working remotely.

Poland on Sunday reported 17,259 new coronavirus infections and 110 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases during the pandemic to 1,906,632 and fatalities to 47,178.

The mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, announced on Friday evening that he was infected with COVID-19.
