Over 16 million COVID-19 shots administered in Poland: gov't data

A total of 16,043,547 COVID-19 vaccine shots have been administered in Poland so far, including 142,117 over the last 24 hours, officials announced on Tuesday.

Public health authorities said that 8,534 adverse reactions had been reported among those who received the vaccines by Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 14,472 doses have been wasted in the rollout, according to the Polish health ministry.

As of Tuesday, Poland had injected over 11.66 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while 4.64 million people had been fully inoculated, health ministry data showed.

The tally includes two-dose vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca as well as Johnson & Johnson's one-shot vaccine.

More than 1.7 million doses of these four vaccines are expected to be delivered to the country this week, according to officials.

Teens under 18 have been given the green light to sign up for COVID-19 shots in Poland as the country ramps up its inoculation campaign.

Poland on Tuesday reported 1,734 new coronavirus infections and 245 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,856,924 and fatalities to 71,920.
