Gądecki said that everyone has the right to live in peace and security, and to seek conditions for secure existence for themselves and their families.

He called on Polish charity organisations to launch concrete assistance programmes for Ukraine, stressing that in recent years Poland has opened its borders to Ukrainians “who live among us, pray in Polish churches and attend Polish schools.”

Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said last week that his country was preparing for a possible wave of refugees from neighouring Ukraine amid the threat of a Russian invasion.
