Agata Kornhauser-Duda’s words came at an Easter meeting with soldiers from a joint Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Brigade, Poland's PAP news agency  reported.

‘Bestiality and genocide’

Addressing the troops in the eastern Polish city of Lublin, the first lady said: “Like every wife, every mother, every woman, I do not accept the things that are happening during this war.”

She added: “I do not accept the deaths of innocent victims of this war, especially children and women ... I do not accept women being raped by Russian soldiers."

She told the gathering: “We must call it as it is: it is bestiality and an act of genocide that must be condemned by everyone, and the perpetrators must be punished.”

‘United for peace’

Kornhauser-Duda thanked everyone involved in humanitarian efforts to help the victims of the war in Ukraine, including her own initiative to help evacuate orphans with disabilities to a specialist centre in Koblenz, western Germany.

She also paid tribute to Polish charities, local authorities and the central government for helping Ukrainian refugees settle in the country.

“I think it is very important that in this tragic situation for Ukraine ... we are together,” Kornhauser-Duda told the gathering earlier this week.

Referring to the joint Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Brigade, she said: “we must always be united for peace,” as well as for “helping Ukraine over the long term.”

‘Ukraine will emerge victorious’

Kornhauser-Duda wished everyone “a peaceful and restful Easter,” the PAP news agency reported.

She voiced her "conviction that Ukraine will emerge victorious from this war, that it will emerge proud, that it will flourish.”

Friday is day 51 of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Poland has welcomed more than 2.7 million refugees fleeing Russia's war against Ukraine, according to officials.
