The famous sorcerer from J. R. R. Tolkien’s fantasy novels will find home in the post-industrial part of Warsaw’s most populated district, Mokotów, according to Gazeta Wyborcza.
A couple of years ago, the neighbourhood known as Industrial Służewiec had its landscape reshaped from one full of factories to a business area.
Its dense concentration of office buildings and a heavy traffic made it famous all over Poland for its humorous moniker "Mordor".
Eventually, it became an inspiration for Gandalf Street, the broadsheet added.
At first, the name suggestion raised doubts among the city council; one of its members suggested that since the neighbourhood was referred to as "Mordor", the street should be named after Sauron, the ruler of Mordor in Tolkien's books.
In the end, councillors voted that Gandalf Street "shall pass," and hence it will appear in Poland’s capital, Warsaw, together with the adjacent Tolkien Street.
