In an English-language post on social media, the IPN urged the Israeli daily to correct the piece, which it said overstated Polish complicity and ignored German responsibility.
“Leaving out the perpetrators’ nationality is also manipulation by "The Jerusalem Post," and distortion of history,” the IPN wrote.
The institute highlighted numerous Poles who risked their lives to save Jews under German occupation, citing resistance figures such as Zofia Kossak-Szczucka, co-founder of the Council to Aid Jews (Żegota), lawyer Jerzy Zakulski and sewer worker Leopold Socha, portrayed in Agnieszka Holland’s film In Darkness.
It also noted that the Polish Underground State imposed the death penalty on anyone aiding Nazi persecution of Jews.
“So, Jerusalem Post, back your claim with something that resembles research. Otherwise, edit your page because it distorts history,” the IPN added.
