"In this context a revolution - like the famous Copernican one - is a situation in which we look from a different perspective at something we already knew, and suddenly we are like 'oh wow!', stumbling upon a breakthrough idea or noticing a possible new approach. When considering the candidates, we search for innovative, groundbreaking, amazing initiatives that have a chance to change the way we look at education"
- emphasized Irena Cieślińska, the Copernicus Science Centre's program director.
The awards are given in two categories: nationwide and local. In the first of them, a Kulczyk Foundation project topped the chart - a training course for midwives titled "Counseling during menopausal transformation".
As Anna Samsel from the foundation explained, few people know that midwives are prepared to accompany women at every stage of their life - not only during the postpartum period and childbirth, but also during menopause. There are still places where access to specialist doctors is very limited, and, as Anna Samsel reminded, every woman should have a midwife to whom she may turn for advice and care. Quite likely, soon all midwives will have a chance to undergo this training and become guides across the menopause as well.
In the local category, the south-eastern city of Krosno's Youth Activity Center at the Art Exhibition Office won the greatest recognition from the jury. Ewelina Jurasz, the director of the office, emphasized that this institution is the only art gallery in Poland with a section specifically dedicated to the young creators.
"It is a department supporting young artists, but in a real way. Not just through projects or initiatives, but also with a tangible, physical place. The centre was established in cooperation with creative youth from the very beginning - and really serves their needs"
- Ewelina Jurasz explained.
All in all, the second edition of the 'Przewroty' award competition received 230 strongly varied applications from all over Poland. The creators of the winning projects received statuettes created at the Copernicus Science Centre, as well as financial prizes of PLN 20,000.
