Poland is set to receive eight American Apache attack helicopters in mid-June, Deputy PM and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced following a Tuesday meeting with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon.

“Eight Apaches will arrive in Poland on June 16. This is a major event,” he said.
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasised that military cooperation between Poland and the United States has never been stronger.

“It’s an interconnected system: Abrams tanks, F-35 fighters, Apaches, and a swarm of drones to support them,” he added.

Gold medal for Polish WWII veteran

During his Washington visit, the minister awarded Colonel Romuald Lipiński, a nearly 100-year-old veteran of the Polish 2nd Corps who fought at Monte Cassino, a gold medal for military merit.

“On behalf of the Polish state, I thank you for the freedom we enjoy because of you,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said, announcing plans to nominate Lipiński for Poland’s highest honour, the Order of the White Eagle.

Lipinski, who emigrated to the US after the war and worked as a nuclear engineer, reflected on the ongoing fight for a free Poland: “The road to Poland is long and never truly ends.”

Kosiniak-Kamysz challenges PiS claims on US ties

Marek Wałkuski, Polish Radio’s correspondent at the White House, noted that Kosiniak-Kamysz’s visit also has a political dimension. The minister said his trip “rebuts the lies from PiS that only their party guarantees good relations between Poland and the United States.”
