Poland’s energy regulator has approved a 14.8% reduction in the tariff charged by state-controlled PGNiG OD, lowering the net price of gas for some seven million households and public-service users to PLN 204.26 ($55) per MWh from 1 July.

Because network and subscription fees are unchanged, total customer bills will drop by around 8-11%, the Office of Energy Regulation (URE) said on Thursday. The biggest savings will accrue to homes that heat with gas; those using it only for cooking will see the smallest cuts.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the decision “good news” for families as well as nurseries, schools and hospitals, which also qualify for the regulated rate.

State energy group Orlen, which owns PGNiG OD, estimated annual savings of about PLN 42 for cooking-only users, 350 zlotys for households that also heat water and roughly PLN 890 ($238) for those that heat their homes entirely with gas.

“ This significant reduction is another piece of good news from Orlen this year,” chief executive Ireneusz Fąfara said, citing the company’s record investment plans in Polish energy security. PGNiG OD chief Barbara Kurdelska said the new tariff was “just the beginning of favorable changes” and promised broader bundled services.

The lower tariff will remain in force until 30 June 2026. Businesses and large institutions pay market-based gas prices outside the regulated framework.
