The measure, aimed at improving access to consular support, enables Polish citizens to request assistance from embassies of other EU member states if they lose their passport or face emergencies in countries where Poland lacks diplomatic representation.
"Important news ahead of the summer season," Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski wrote on social media on Wednesday.
During a recent Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk thanked Sikorski for implementing the policy, which he said would benefit Poles living or traveling abroad.
Under the new rules, EU embassies will be able to issue emergency travel documents, allowing Polish citizens to return home or continue their journey with valid identification.
Previously, the absence of Polish diplomatic posts in some regions posed significant challenges for those in need of urgent assistance, according to officials.
