Authorities say there is a “reasonable suspicion of a crime” carrying a prison sentence of six months to eight years, according to a statement released on Monday morning via social media.

The inquiry follows complaints from a senator Magdalena Biejat, the mayor of Gdańsk, and a private citizen, alleging that Nawrocki obtained the property from Jerzy Ż., a vulnerable elderly man, under questionable circumstances.

Prosecutors say the former property owner may have been misled into signing over ownership based on promises of payment and care that were never fulfilled.

Authorities have gathered documents from courts, correctional facilities, medical services and social agencies. Witness hearings are expected as the inquiry continues.
