The move follows controversy sparked by vulgar remarks Grok made about Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and other officials on X, the social media platform also owned by Musk.

Speaking to private broadcaster RMF FM, Gawkowski said Warsaw would ask Brussels to investigate the matter under EU digital regulations.

'Hate speech driven by algorithms'

"I have the impression that we are entering a higher level of hate speech, driven by algorithms," said Gawkowski, who also serves as Poland's digitisation minister.

"Turning a blind eye or ignoring this today is a mistake that may cost humanity in the future," he added.

He told RMF FM that his Ministry of Digital Affairs would "act in accordance with existing regulations" and report the incident to the European Commission, seeking a possible fine against X.

"Freedom of speech belongs to humans, not to artificial intelligence," Gawkowski said.

Concerns over political bias, hate speech and misinformation generated by AI chatbots have grown since the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022, the Reuters news agency reported.
