After spending nearly 20 days aboard the International Space Station, Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski is set to return to Earth with his Axiom 4 crewmates, carrying a powerful symbol of solidarity from the WOŚP charity.
The Dragon capsule is scheduled to detach from the International Space Station at 13:05 Polish time, with the hatch closing earlier at 10:55.
Splashdown off the coast of California is expected on Tuesday.
Farewell aboard the ISS with WOŚP’s symbolic golden heart
On Sunday, the Ax-4 astronauts took part in a farewell ceremony aboard the International Space Station.
During the final days of the mission, Uznański-Wiśniewski reflected on social media about a meaningful item he carried into space:
“This 4.5-gram Golden Heart from the WOŚP Foundation looks beautiful in space and serves as a daily reminder of what truly matters: solidarity, community, and helping one another.
After I return to Earth, the Heart will go to the Robert Dobrzycki Foundation, which won the WOŚP charitable auction, raising funds for paediatric oncology and haematology, with the highest bid in history - PLN 1.3 million (approximately 305,000 euros).”
The WOŚP (Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity), founded by Jurek Owsiak, is one of Poland’s most popular charities, known for its extensive fundraising efforts supporting medical care, particularly for children’s hospitals and cancer treatment.
Earlier, Uznański-Wiśniewski shared a message expressing hope and readiness for the work ahead once back on Earth, encouraging his supporters to be equally prepared for the challenges to come.
