Przemysław “Pshemek” Jeziorski - as he preferred to be called by Americans due to the difficulty of pronouncing his Polish name - was fatally shot on July 4 in a suburb of Athens while on his way to pick up his two young children from their mother’s residence.

Jeziorski’s ex-wife - a Greek national with whom he had two children - denies any involvement, according to her lawyer who spoke to CNN. Due to Greek legal restrictions, her identity has not been made public.

The suspect’s confession, along with conflicting statements from three alleged accomplices also leaked to the media, points to a premeditated murder and sets the stage for a lengthy and high-profile trial.

Greek police believe the 43-year-old economist was targeted in a planned attack linked to a long-running custody dispute.

Jeziorski’s ex-wife charged as moral accomplice

According to a leaked confession obtained by CNN Greece and confirmed by law enforcement sources, the suspect - the current partner of Jeziorski’s former spouse - said he “did it all for her and the children,” allegedly to prevent Jeziorski from taking the children to the United States.

Authorities have charged Jeziorski’s former spouse as a moral accomplice, though she denies any involvement, her lawyer told CNN. Greek legal restrictions prevent her name from being published, but police confirmed she is under investigation.

Jeziorski, who moved to the U.S. in 2004, was a tenured professor at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, where he earned a reputation as a brilliant yet humble academic with a passion for teaching and research.
