Tusk met in Warsaw with Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, the first Pole to travel to the ISS, and thanked him for his role in the mission.

"Poland is proud of what you’ve accomplished," Tusk said.

Tusk spoke about the importance of the mission not only from a scientific standpoint but also in terms of its social impact, noting that the astronaut’s success could serve as a powerful inspiration for younger generations.

“I am convinced that the Polish dream of space will not remain just the individual feat of our national hero,” Tusk said, adding that the mission would benefit national security, Polish businesses, science and technology.

Uznański-Wiśniewski returned to Poland on Thursday after spending a week at ESA’s European Astronaut Centre in Cologne, where he was recovering following his mission aboard the ISS.

Before greeting a crowd of supporters at Warsaw Chopin Airport, he also met with Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
