The project is being developed jointly with the interior ministry, Education Minister Barbara Nowacka told reporters this week.
She said the new material would update and expand the existing “Education for Safety” course taught in the final year of primary school and the first year of secondary school.
"I believe we should return more closely to what used to be taught in civil defence classes," Nowacka said. "We have already introduced first aid lessons in early grades, but crisis response and civil defence require more attention."
The textbook is expected to be ready soon to help teachers and students respond to emergencies, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said a simplified children’s version, titled The Safety Handbook, would also be published.
Currently, “Education for Safety” classes cover emergency procedures, first aid, national security, rescue operations and civil defence.
First-aid training is now mandatory at all levels of schooling, taught by classroom teachers as part of science and homeroom lessons, the PAP news agency reported.
