The World Car-Free Day, observed as part of European Mobility Week, has been celebrated in Poland since 2004.

In the capital, Warsaw, all public transport is available at no cost, including access to all 17 Park & Ride parking facilities across the city.

Residents of other Polish cities can also benefit from complimentary public transport during European Mobility Week, with special offers for users of public bike schemes and train passengers.

In Wrocław, southwestern Poland, tram and bus services are free throughout the city and on routes connecting neighbouring municipalities in the metropolitan area. The operator of the Wrocław Public Bike System, Nextbike, offers one hour of cycling at no charge on the day, in addition to the usual free first 20 minutes of each ride.

Similar arrangements are offered in other cities, including Częstochowa in the south, Łódź in central Poland, and Białystok in the northeast.

Car-Free Day, established in 2000 by the European Commission, is also marked in Poland with ROADPOL Safety Days, coordinated by the European Traffic Police Network, Roadpol.

"On this day, we urge drivers to leave their cars at home and choose alternative transport, such as bicycles or scooters," the police said, adding that the initiative not only improves air quality but also benefits physical health and mental well-being.
