Wrocław has become the first Polish city in history to enter the top tier of the Copenhagenize Index - one of the world’s most influential rankings assessing how well cities support everyday cycling.
Wrocław, ranked 28th in the global top 30 of bike-friendly cities, has earned praise for its expanding cycling network and strong pro-cycling policies. The citys famous dwarfs, symbols of Wrocław, including the Harpist (Harfuś) even celebrate the local cycling culture.

The 2025 EIT Urban Mobility Edition places the southwestern Polish city 28th, ahead of Vancouver in Canada, Valencia in Spain, London in the UK and Barcelona in Spain.

The index evaluates cities across three pillars: safe and well-connected infrastructure, the availability and use of bicycles, and long-term political support for cycling.

This year’s leader is Utrecht in the Netherlands, followed by Copenhagen in Denmark and Ghent in Belgium.

Wrocław was recognised for rapidly expanding its cycling network - now 428 km long - and for measures encouraging everyday use of bikes.

These include the launch of Mikrohuba Wrocław, Poland’s first logistics centre operated entirely by cargo bikes, the reopening of the historic city centre to cyclists, the introduction of a permanent Slow Zone and the delivery of a youth mobility education programme.

The city’s bike-share system, relaunched with 2,500 bicycles, logged one million rides within six months.

Other Polish cities listed in the index include Poznań (53rd), Warsaw (62nd), Gdańsk (63rd) and Łódź (68th).
