Amnesty Poland joins global letter-writing campaign to defend human rights

On the occasion of Human Rights Day, observed on 10 December, Amnesty International Poland has warned that violations of fundamental freedoms continue across the globe and urged the public to join its annual Write for Rights initiative, as well as participate in related events in several cities.

Anna Matras, a legal analyst with the organisation, described conditions in the Gaza Strip as currently the most severe, while highlighting serious abuses in Syria, Yemen, Myanmar, and Afghanistan.

Anna Błaszczak-Banasiak, director of Amnesty International Poland, told Polish Radio that Europe continues to struggle with violence against minorities, women, and migrants.

Amnesty International is calling on the public to take part in the initiative, the largest human rights campaign in the world.


Each year, millions of people mobilise to support individuals whose rights are under threat, sending letters to decision-makers who can influence their fate, alongside messages of solidarity to victims and their families.

Spotlight on Gaza

In 2025, alongside its global letter-writing campaign, Amnesty International Poland will host special events in several cities.

In Warsaw, a protest is planned to draw attention to the escalating crisis and genoicide in Gaza.

The organisation describes the situation there as a silent humanitarian disaster: residents face severe shortages of electricity, water, medicine, and shelter.

Eyewitnesses report overwhelming hardship, with hospitals unable to treat chronically ill patients and families struggling to survive.
