A model pupil at Primary School No. 10 was reportedly murdered near a stream behind the school playground, approximately 200 metres from the school building.
The suspect in the case is a 12-year-old girl. She has been taken into custody and subjected to a temporary court measure, according to the District Court, pending further investigation.
Mayor calls for city-wide mourning
In response to the tragedy, the mayor declared a day of mourning for the city on Saturday, 20 December 2025. “In light of the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of 11-year-old Danusia on 15 December, I declare Saturday, 20 December 2025, a day of mourning in Jelenia Góra,” Łużniak said.

The politician urged organisers of cultural, sporting, and entertainment events to consider cancelling or postponing them.
A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 on Saturday at the chapel of the Old Municipal Cemetery, followed immediately by the burial.
The mayor requested that, in accordance with the wishes of the family, privacy be respected and the media refrain from attending the funeral.
Support and guidance offered to pupils
On Thursday, city officials, accompanied by the school principal, held a briefing regarding the girl’s death.
Psychological support was provided to pupils, particularly those at the victim’s school, with assistance from the Ministry of Interior and Administration hospital also made available.
“This support will be a challenge for everyone,” said Mayor Łużniak.
Joanna Klaga, a therapist with the Autika Foundation, noted the difficulty of making sense of such behaviour: “Even the best educators and psychologists are not enough. The most important and difficult conversations will happen at home. Children now need primarily a sense of safety and the presence of adults.”
Child kills child: murder deeply impacts both families
The tragedy has affected both the victim’s and the suspect’s families.
While social media has seen posts condemning the 12-year-old suspect, there have also been messages expressing concern for her family.
“I was surprised by the care shown for the family of the detained girl. Some online groups shared information encouraging support for them and warning against lynch mob reactions,” Klaga added.
