Most of the fire interventions involved small blazes, accounting for 540 cases, with 50 occurring in residential buildings, said Karol Kierzkowski, spokesman for Poland’s State Fire Service.

Two fatal fires were reported overnight. In Świnna Poręba in southern Małopolskie province, a fire engulfed an outbuilding and partially spread to a single-family house, killing one person. Another person died in a house fire in Sarny Wielkie in Opolskie province.

In Wieleń, in western Wielkopolskie province, a fire broke out in the attic of a hotel, prompting the evacuation of 19 people during firefighting operations.

The firefighters also recorded 146 local hazard incidents overnight, carried out 30 medical interventions and responded to 21 road traffic incidents.

In addition, firefighters dealt with 83 false alarms, mostly reported in good faith or triggered by fire detection systems, Kierzkowski said.
