Prosecutors say the suspect is believed to be hiding in Russia while facing charges of participating in intelligence activities aimed at undermining national security.
The case is being supervised by the military division of the Kraków District Prosecutor’s Office and was entrusted to a branch of Poland’s Internal Security Agency.
Officials say the former soldier used a social media profile called “PolaknaDonbasie” to disseminate false and misleading information designed to disrupt Poland’s political system.
In addition to espionage-related charges, he is also accused of joining a foreign military service.
On the request of prosecutors, a local court in Kraków ordered precautionary measures, including temporary arrest.
Because the suspect is currently evading authorities, a nationwide warrant has been issued.
Prosecutors have described the case as part of broader concerns about Russian intelligence operations targeting Polish society, highlighting the growing use of social media platforms to conduct covert influence campaigns.
Authorities say the investigation reflects heightened vigilance against foreign intelligence operations and disinformation, particularly amid ongoing tensions between Poland and Russia following the war in Ukraine.
