Warsaw introduces nighttime alcohol sales ban

Warsaw has introduced a citywide nighttime ban on alcohol sales at shops and gas stations in an effort to curb alcohol abuse and reduce the social costs of excessive drinking.

The measure was championed by local activists and backed by residents after pilot programs showed a clear drop in public order incidents.

The move has reignited debate over alcohol policy in Poland, with lawmakers considering whether similar restrictions should be introduced nationwide.

Supporters argue that limiting late-night alcohol sales can improve public safety and reduce the burden on healthcare, law enforcement and social services, while critics warn of the potential economic impact.
