Polish police are urging people to take extra care around water after two people died on Saturday.
In a warning posted on social media, police said a single careless moment could turn deadly, and appealed to the public to stay alert and look after their own safety and that of others.
Paweł Ciepliński, a lifeguard with the Water Volunteer Rescue Service in Katowice, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that the most important thing to bring to the water was not sun cream or a hat – it was common sense.
Lakes, pools and the sea were great places to relax and exercise, he said, but reckless behaviour could quickly turn a fun day out into a tragedy.
According to police figures, 292 people drowned in Poland in 2025.
Most were adult men, though the victims also included women and 15 children.
Alcohol played a role in 58 of the deaths.
The most common causes included swimming in unsupervised or off-limits areas, and carelessness while fishing or spending time near water.
