It described Lutak on social media as "a soldier and patriot for whom service to his homeland was life’s highest value; a man whose experience, posture and remembrance of the past were of particular importance for successive generations."

Born in the village of Żarnowa in southeastern Poland in 1917, Lutak volunteered for the army after completing primary school.

Following Germany’s invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, he took part in the country’s defensive campaign during World War II.

Captured by German forces, Lutak escaped and from 1940 was involved in the underground activities of Poland’s Home Army, taking part in sabotage missions and gathering intelligence.

After the war, he returned to his native village and worked as a farmer and butcher for many years. He was active in the Union of War Veterans and the World Association of Home Army Soldiers.

Lutak's many distinctions included the Officer's Cross of the Polonia Restituta Order, the Home Army Cross, a medal for participation in Poland's 1939 defensive war and the "Witness of History" honorary badge awarded by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN).
