Poles want no-scooter zones, lower speed limits, survey finds

29.10.2026 11:00
Most Poles favour restrictions on electric scooters in cities, with 78.2 percent saying their permitted speed should be reduced and 76.5 percent supporting designated zones where scooters would be banned, according to a new survey.

Meanwhile, 18.3 percent of respondents opposed lowering the permitted speed and 3.5 percent were undecided, according to the survey by pollster IBRiS for Poland's PAP news agency.

The idea of a complete ban on electric scooters in large cities was more divisive, the pollster said. Some 43.2 percent supported such a ban, while 48.5 percent opposed it and 8.4 percent had no opinion.

Electric scooters are most popular among younger respondents. In the 18-29 age group, 25 percent said they had used one in the previous six months. The figure was 12 percent among those aged 30-39 and 13 percent among those aged 40-49.

Among respondents aged 50-59 and 60-69, only 1 percent in each group said they had used an electric scooter during the previous six months.

No respondents aged 70 or older reported using one, PAP reported.

The poll was carried out from October 22 to 26 among a nationwide sample of 1,000 people using computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI).

In mid-October, Warsaw city councilors adopted a resolution calling for a ban on app-based electric scooters in the city and on their use in the city centre. The measure was approved by an almost unanimous vote.

The councilors said legislative changes were needed to address problems caused by electric scooters, as well as greater powers for the municipal police, including the ability to stop e-scooters in motion.
