A plane travelling from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin was diverted to Warsaw-Modlin after an alert about a possible bomb threat was declared at 9.54am.

The plane landed at 10.01am with 181 people on board and 3.7 tonnes of fuel. Passengers were allowed to leave the aircraft after 10.45am.

Warsaw-Modlin Airport was closed while security services carried out checks. Airport operations resumed at 11.50am. The aircraft remained in a designated area while the relevant services, including bomb disposal teams, carried out checks. Passengers and crew waited in the arrivals hall.

A similar alert was received by the crew of a SAS flight from Copenhagen to Warsaw. The aircraft landed at Chopin Airport, where security services carried out checks.

One runway was temporarily closed, but this did not significantly affect airport operations.

Chopin Airport spokesman Piotr Rudzki said shortly after 12.20pm that the operation at Chopin Airport had ended.
