Poles will have to wear masks in public amid epidemic

Poles will from next Thursday have to wear masks or scarves covering their nose and mouth when out in public, the country’s health minister has announced amid a coronavirus epidemic.

Łukasz Szumowski said the move would help protect “not us, the ones wearing these masks and scarves, but others from us.”

He told reporters that the COVID-19 disease was spreading in Poland, and some people who were infected showed no symptoms.

A total of 5,341 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Poland, with 164 deaths from the coronavirus so far, officials said on Thursday morning.

Poland’s prime minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, on Thursday announced that a swathe of restrictions on daily life were being extended as the country battles the epidemic.
