Over 37.1 million COVID-19 shots administered in Poland: gov't data

A total of 37,104,651 vaccine shots have been administered in Poland so far, including 28,471 over the last 24 hours, officials announced on Friday.

Public health authorities said that 15,478 adverse reactions had been reported among those who received the vaccines by Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 454,439 doses have been wasted in the rollout, according to the Polish health ministry.

As of FridayPoland had injected over 19.7 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while more than 19.3 million people had been fully inoculated, health ministry data showed.

The tally includes two-dose vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca as well as Johnson & Johnson's one-shot vaccine.

Poland on Friday reported 813 new coronavirus infections and 14 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,901,674 and fatalities to 75,551.

The government this week recommended a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for healthcare workers and people over 50. Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska told reporters on Tuesday that the booster shot would be administered at least six months after the second shot.

Earlier people with compromised immune systems were advised to receive a third dose of the vaccine.
