The European Union enjoys 2.5 times more trust than the Polish state authorities, the latest Poland-based study by Eurobarometer has shown.

Overall, Europeans have demonstrated an increased faith in EU institutions, with 47% of them having a positive outlook on the union and a mere 16% remaining sceptical.

Meanwhile, some 60% of Poles think highly of the EU, whilst only 4% hold a negative opinion on its functioning.

Surprisingly, though, Poland’s government and Parliament are taken with a grain of salt, as they are deemed trustworthy by a modest 26% and 28%, respectively; much below the EU average.

At the same time, the research has revealed that Poland is the only country where privately held TV and radio stations are widely recognised as the most reliable sources of information, wrote the European Parliament quoting the Eurobarometer survey.

Across Europe, people usually regard public TV and radio stations, as well as print media as the most trusted source of information. In Hungary, the surveyed name “people, groups or friends followed on social media” as the source they trust the most.

Eurobarometer is a collection of public opinion surveys carried out regularly among EU member states, according to the European Commission website.
