Although Adam Strzembosz - a legendary former Deputy Minister of Justice in Tadeusz Mazowiecki’s government and the first President of the Supreme Court - will turn 95 this September, he still actively follows current political events. He did not overlook the bizarre remark made by Andrzej Duda, which has recently sparked considerable emotion in Poland.
A few days ago, the head of state spoke critically about the government’s judiciary reform during a broadcast on conservative Radio Wnet.
During the discussion, Andrzej Duda chose to imitate Prof. Adam Strzembosz’s voice, mocking his earlier statements about the judiciary’s self-cleansing. This unbecoming behavior by the current President of Poland was met with widespread criticism from the public.
Polish judge responds to President Duda’s mockery
Prof. Strzembosz, responding to Duda’s remark in an interview with Wirtualna Polska, said, “Everyone acts according to what their heart and upbringing dictate. The President doesn’t have to like me, and I understand that he wanted to express his attitude toward me somehow. I don’t attach any importance to this kind of behavior.”
The experienced judge noted that he is not surprised by the attitude of the populist politician from the Law and Justice (PiS) party.
“I was very harsh toward the President in terms of the accusations I made. However, I believe I did it in a cultured and substantive manner,” he added, acknowledging that he understands the President may have wanted to show personal dislike.
The professor also commented on the election of the new President of Poland, pointing out that, in his opinion, Karol Nawrocki might block reforms aimed at restoring the rule of law in Poland.
