About 5 million Polish jobs, just over 30 percent of the workforce, face partial automation from generative AI, according to a new index compiled by state-run research institute NASK and the International Labor Organization.

Women are more exposed, with 39 percent of female-held jobs deemed susceptible, co-author Paweł Gmyrek told public broadcaster Polskie Radio.

"Occupational segregation remains strong and women dominate office and administrative roles that are more vulnerable to automation," he said.

Even so, NASK researcher Marek Troszyński said that AI will alter rather than erase many occupations.

Tasks such as answering routine emails could be automated, while the secretarial role itself "will shift to different responsibilities," he added.

Deploying AI could also help offset Poland’s shrinking labor pool, said NASK analysis chief Filip Konopczyński.

With fewer entrants than retirees, "we should treat generative AI as a chance to stop the economy stalling for lack of workers," he argued.

NASK’s database lets users check each occupation’s exposure. Poland’s classification lists more than 2,500 jobs and nearly 30,000 tasks potentially replaceable by generative AI.
