Poland’s Health Ministry has awarded PLN 3.1 billion (EUR 727 million) for hospital digitization under the National Recovery Plan (KPO), but fewer than two-thirds of positively rated applicants will receive funding, daily Rzeczpospolita reported Monday.

The money is earmarked for equipment and services to introduce AI tools, digitize medical records, integrate and expand hospital IT systems, and bolster cybersecurity—an area the paper says has gained importance amid pressure from Russian hackers.

Citing data from the state-run Center for e-Health (CeZ), the paper said 17 cybersecurity incidents were recorded in healthcare in the week of September 10–16, following the breach of Polish airspace by Russian drones. The previous week saw 20 incidents, including one intrusion. CeZ experts see no clear week-to-week increase recently, but note a marked rise for all of 2025 compared with last year.

The ministry said it received 495 applications in the KPO competition and positively assessed 457. Of these, 325 top-scoring projects were recommended for support.

The list of omitted institutions includes five military hospitals and seven run by the Interior Ministry, among them the MSWiA hospital in Kraków, which was hit by hackers in March 2025.
