The poll says 86.8% see alcoholism as a serious social issue; 64% know someone with a real alcohol problem. Drinking is largely moderate by self-report, but social pressure is common: 74.1% have seen people drink because it is “expected.”
Access and treatment draw concern. Some 61.9% say alcohol is too easily available. On care, 45.7% judge treatment insufficient, versus 37.5% who say it’s adequate.
There is broad backing for tighter rules: 67.9% support a total nighttime sales ban and 59.6% favor banning sales one day a week. Asked about a price shock, if alcohol cost twice as much, 32.5% say they would not change habits, 27.6% would drink less and 18.5% would quit.
The UCE Research online survey (CAWI) of 1,001 adults aged 18–80 was conducted Sept. 26–28, 2025.
