Asked whether Poland should obtain nuclear weapons, 20.9% responded “definitely yes” and 30.0% said “rather yes,” according to the survey. Opposition totaled 38.6%, including 23.5% “rather no” and 15.1% “definitely no.”
Support was identical among women and men at 51% each, the poll showed. Opposition was lower among women than men, at 35% versus 42%, with the remaining respondents in both groups undecided.
By political preference, backing was highest among right-wing voters. The poll found 79% of Confederation voters and 65% of Law and Justice (PiS) voters supported acquiring nuclear weapons. Support was 54% among New Left voters.
Among supporters of the centrist parties Poland 2050 and PSL, 40% backed the idea, while the lowest support was among voters of the governing Civic Coalition, where 35% gave affirmative answers, the poll said.
