Polish diplomat seriously injured in Slovenia, ministry says

A Polish diplomat was seriously injured in an accident in Ljubljana during a private stay in the Slovenian capital, the Polish foreign ministry spokesman said, denying media reports and speculation about the incident.

Spokesman Maciej Wewiór said the diplomat was not carrying or transporting classified documents and did not fall from a window, contrary to reports in some media outlets.

Wewiór appealed to the public not to add to the family's distress by spreading false information.

He clarified that the employee was not the head of the ministry's Diplomatic Security Bureau but worked in one of its departments.

"Our colleague from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was seriously injured in an accident in Ljubljana," Wewiór wrote on X on Monday.

"At this point, the most important thing is his health and the peace of mind of his loved ones. Please respect their privacy," he added.

Nie przewoził ani nie miał przy sobie żadnych tajnych dokumentów. Nieprawdziwa jest również informacja, jakoby wypadł z okna. Jesteśmy w stałym kontakcie z placówką oraz szpitalem, w którym przebywa nasz kolega.

Wewiór said the ministry was in constant contact with the Polish diplomatic mission in Ljubljana and the hospital where the employee was being treated.
