Tennis: Poland’s Hurkacz through to 2nd round of Australian Open

Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has made it through to the second round of the Australian Open tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The 22-year-old Pole beat Austria’s Dennis Novak in a five-set (6-7, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4) win in the men's singles on Tuesday.

Hurkacz, 31st in the world ranking, next takes on Australia’s John Millman.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Iga Świątek is set to face Hungary’s Timea Babos in their first-round women's singles match at the Australian Open.

Polish player Magda Linette crashed out in the first round of the women's singles at the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne on Tuesday.
