Australian Open: Poland’s Świątek through to 3rd round of women’s singles

Poland’s Iga Świątek has made it through to the third round of the women’s singles competition at the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament in Melbourne.

The 18-year-old Pole, ranked world No. 56 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), saw off Spain's Carla Suárez Navarro 6-3, 7-5 in their second-round encounter Down Under on Thursday.

Up next for the young Polish player at the Australian Open was 19th-seeded Croat Donna Vekić.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz bowed out of the men's singles in Melbourne after losing to Australia’s John Millman, 4-6, 5-7, 3-6, in the second round on Wednesday.
