"Today we’re all aware of the difficulties of the situation that surrounds us. Today we’re all playing in one team,” the couple said in a statement.

Lewandowski is the captain of Poland’s national football squad and a striker for Germany’s Bayern Munich, while his wife is a media personality in her own right.

“If we can help someone in a safe way then let's do that. Good has a way of coming back,” the couple added.

They did not specify to whom they were donating money.

The couple also urged people to behave responsibly during the global coronavirus outbreak.

“Let’s be responsible. We believe that we will soon return to normality. Let's be together, let's show solidarity," they said.
