Tennis: Poland’s Świątek makes French Open semifinals

Polish tennis player Iga Świątek has cruised into the semifinals of the women's singles competition at the French Open tournament in Paris, notching up her best Grand Slam result so far.

The Polish 19-year-old on Tuesday saw off Italian qualifier Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1 in their quarterfinal match in the French capital.

The victory marked a career milestone for the 2018 junior Wimbledon champion, who will now play Argentina's Nadia Podoroska for a place in the championship match.

Świątek on Monday booked her place in the quarterfinals of the women’s doubles at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris together with Nicole Melichar of the United States.
