Tennis: Poland’s Świątek eases into French Open final

Rising Polish tennis star Iga Świątek has eased past Argentina's Nadia Podoroska to reach the final of the women's singles at the French Open Grand Slam tournament in Paris for the first time in her career.

The Polish 19-year-old overpowered the Argentine qualifier 6-2, 6-1 in their semifinal clash in Paris on Thursday.

The victory marked a new career milestone for Poland's 2018 junior Wimbledon champion, who will now face either Czech Petra Kvitova or American Sofia Kenin in the championship match.

Kvitova and Kenin were scheduled to play their semifinal in the French capital later in the day.

Świątek on Wednesday booked her place in the semifinals of the women’s doubles at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris together with Nicole Melichar of the United States.
