Polish football chief ‘shocked’ at death of genius Maradona

The head of the Polish Football Association has said he is shocked at the death of Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona, whom he hailed as a genius.

“I’m not in a state to say much. Shock, shock, shock ... I have no words, I'm choked,” Zbigniew Boniek was cited as saying by Poland’s onet.pl website.

Boniek, a famous former Poland football player, added: “For me, Diego was the best footballer in the world ever. Simply a genius.”

Maradona died on Wednesday at the age of 60 after a heart attack at his home in Buenos Aires.

Maradona, who captained Argentina when it won the World Cup in 1986, had been battling with health issues.

He underwent surgery on a blood clot in his brain earlier this month.
