The Pole produced jumps of 139 and 140.5 metres to comfortably outdistance his rivals and win Wednesday’s competition, ahead of runner-up Marius Lindvik of Norway and third-placed Karl Geiger of Germany.

Stoch, who is a three-time Olympic champion, sealed his third Four Hills tournament victory.

Poland’s Dawid Kubacki, who won the second leg of the series in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, was ranked 15th on Wednesday, and finished third in the tournament overall.

Initially, the Polish team had been excluded from the Four Hills opener after one of its members, Klemens Murańka, tested positive for COVID-19.

At the last minute the Poles were cleared to compete in Oberstdorf by German health authorities after further checks in which all members of the national team tested negative for the coronavirus.

The Four Hills Tournament, which is part of the ski-jumping World Cup circuit, features a series of four competitions taking place in Germany and Austria every year.
