The competition was held on Saturday at the ISU European Short Track Championships 2021 in Gdańsk, northern Poland.

This is a third edition of the European championships that Maliszewska has walked away with a medal in the 500 meters. In 2019 she won gold in Dordrecht, Netherlands, and  bronze a year later in Debrecen, Hungary.

Gold and bronze went to Suzanne Schulting and Xandra Velzeboer, respectively,  both representing the Netherlands. Schulting has defended her 1500 metres and 500m titles on day two of the championships.

The Gdansk championships are the first short track event held by the the International Skating Union (ISU) since the World Cup in Dordrecht in February 2020. The competition ends on Sunday.
