Gold for Pole at European Judo Championships

Poland's Beata Pacut has taken the gold at the European Judo Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, in the under-78 kg category.

Pacut beat Guusje Steenhuis of the Netherlands in the final on Sunday to notch up the biggest success of her career so far.

It was the first individual triumph by a Pole at the European championships since 2007, when Robert Krawczyk won in Belgrade in the under-81 kg category. Krawczyk is now Pacut's coach.

The 2021 European Judo Championships ran from April 16 to 18.
